CAMINO DE SANTIAGO

Hello, my name is Gabriele Momoli.

I’m 37 years old and I currently live in Pieve del Grappa, Italy.

On December 13th,  2023,  I’m going to walk from Oporto to Santiago de Compostela along the route that thousands of pilgrims have undertaken every year. 

The purpose of my walk will be as part of a fundraiser.

Why a fundraiser?

My partner Aline has stage 5 polycystic kidney syndrome in both organs (renal failure) and has been on dialysis and on the transplant waiting list for the last two years, at the nephrology department of the Bruno Born hospital in Lajeado, state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. The hospital lies in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. 

On September 4th and 5th of 2023 the area was hit hard by torrential rains and floods that destroyed over 4800 homes and businesses, killed 50 people and there are still 9 missing.  The most affected cities were those located along the banks of the Rio Taquari, just like Lajeado.

The disaster caused by the severe floods and storms affected 98 surrounding municipalities.  The two largest floods in the state history, happened within 75 days of each other, in September and November 2023.

After seeing the devastation first hand and feeling the pain of those effected, the idea of opening a fundraiser for 6 of my partner’s dialysis companions who have truly lost everything, including their home, sounded like a great idea!

I will take all the money collected personally next February to the hospital’s ward to the people who, in addition to having to live a difficult life caused by dialysis, have lost their homes and all their basic necessities.

I want to clarify that my entire journey will be self-expensed and the money raised will be entirely donated to the 6 Lajeado hemodialysis patients who lost their homes.

No donations will go to me or my partner.

As soon as possible, I will publish detailed evidence of the money raised and its distribution.

Any donations above 6,000 euros will be donated to the aid center in Arroio do Meio -RS- (the city where my partner lives) which is responsible for distributing aid, food and medicines to displaced people.
